I have known the Lord since “before I was formed in the womb” (Jeremiah 1:5). I have always known my God for as long as my memory stretches back. At the same time, I have always been certain of my calling to be a ministry and eventually a missionary. In all of the dark times of doubt and struggles of life, I have always had this firm anchor to hold on to. I was raised as the son of an AG pastor, who started my home church when I was 3 weeks old. I consider my church to be the best in the world, with its unique diverse loving family and unmatched zeal for the Lord and his kingdom.
After battling through high school, I went off to Wheaton College, the “capitol” of Evangelicalism, where ironically I probably had to battle more for my faith than anywhere else. Wheaton is not generally very friendly to the things of the Spirit, but as such I have learned how to appreciate, work with, preach to, and learn from the wider body of Christ, something I was never really exposed to growing up in the AG. I have learned how to minister to those who have no “grid” for the things of the Spirit, as well as how to reach out to those from all different backgrounds.
One of my highest ideals is to see God in his sovereignty and intimate involvement in all the minutia of my day. I believe that as a comprehensive problem, sin requires a comprehensive solution – the God of 24/7, discipleship that frees us from the slavery of everything into obedience in everything. As such, I think that nothing is more powerful than simple believers sharing their testimonies and lives with one another. This is the nucleus of the church and the heart of communally based – discipleship – loving God and each other as we walk with God and one another. I believe in radical investment and mentorship in the lives of others, as spiritual headship, time, and depth are the keys to lasting transformation in all people, and no ministry program can substitute for this
