At 15 I started to explore neo-paganism, and by the time I was 18, I was a self-professed Druid priest. I became interested in such religiousness due to my fascination with my Irish/Scottish ancestry. And, when I was 19, mother had returned to church to give my younger brother a wholesome influence in his life. They had both converted to Christianity, and would invite me to attend a service regularly.
At this time, I worked as a security officer and Sundays were work days. This made for a great excuse to avoid church; after all, I was a druid and didn't vibe with Jesus. But in September of 1996, I had gotten into a fist-fight with a fellow officer. Our boss decided that it was due to certain stresses we were facing as a company and instead of reprimanding us, he gave us both a week's paid vacation to get our heads together. I no longer had a Sunday excuse, and I went to church to placate my mother.
At church, I found the pastor's message quite reasonable and rational. I also felt a sense of resolve and peace about being at church, as though something had been lifted off my shoulders. I decided to attend as often as I could to learn and evaluate faith.
On November 18th, 2006, I concluded that I believed it all, save the deity of Jesus. I went up to a mountain near my home and prayed for hours, arguing the deity of Jesus with God himself. I even asked for a sign, specifically lightning striking (in a clear sky) if Jesus was God-incarnate, the only begotten Son. I waited on God for more than an hour, without any sign.
As I waited, my inner-resolve toward Christianity was made complete. I decided to trust God, believe in Jesus, and follow Him, despite the lack if evidence. After all, how could I trust the rest of the Story without the key character? I confessed my sins and gave my heart... Still no sign. I felt alive... More alive than I ever had as I drove down home. It was there on the drive home that I then saw multiple flashes of lightning. By faith!!
